It partly depends on what ripening agent they are using, but still you can't say for sure. My induction took about 9 hours total, but many women go days with no effacement. In that case, they would have to repeat the procedure.

Hope you meet your baby very soon!

I was induced with Cervidil (vaginal insert).

It did ripen my cervix and cause contractions. The drawback was that it caused my contractions to be extremely close together when I was still hours away from delivering. Like 12 seconds apart when I was only 5 cm dilated. They had to give me another drug to stop the contractions because they were just way out of hand....basically I wasn't ripening at the same rate my contractions were moving closer together.

I ended up with a c-section due to fetal distress. Her cord was wrapped around her neck and chest...so it wasn't because of the induction.

They induced me after spotting on my due date and no labor pains. It was fast (7 hours) and intense. There was no gradual pain increase, it just came all at once once they put in the iv of oxytocin (I think that's how you spell it). That was 26 years ago. They probably use something different today. 7 hours is short compared to 36 which a friend of mine underwent until her doctor took it c-section. Talk to the nurses when you get to the hospital this morning. They should have some straight up answers for you. Also, bring a friend with. Keep that friend with you in the room at all times because hospital staff certainly do not stay in there the entire time.

Could be hours, or days. No prediction can be made, it's highly variable. It also depends on what medication they use for ripening. If they use Cervidil, those stay in for a minimum of 12 hours, and sometimes repeat doses are needed.

Good luck!

it all depends on the individual and what they use from my experience i was induced 11 days early due to pre-eclampsia
and they used gels to soften my cervix i had first lot of gels inserted at 4pm again at 10pm and they broke my water at 7am next morning i was in labour for 2 and half hours. good luck hope this helps.

It all depends Hun, they tried to induce me with my twins but it didn't work, they will give you your first dose of medication internally then check you every so often if it doesn't work they have to wait i think it was around 11 hours then they repeat it again, best of luck x
