I am personally rooting for him. I have not actually gotten the chance to see him play (no center ice) but next time they're on Versus I'll be tuning in. I'll pull for the blackhawks because it's
a. Good for the US to have a hot young dynamic scorer to chase the US record over the years (Modano's just not that exciting anymore....)
b. My dad grew up in Chicago when they won their last cup.
c. Because one of their scouts has come on here and revealed himself to be a class guy whose posts are always interesting to read (suckup over now...)

If Kane stopped giving the puck away, he might have more fans.
So far he leads all rookies in scoring, and giveaways. several of those giveaways have ended up behind his own goalie.
Having said that, I've read nothing but excellent reviews about the kid. He plays a lot, for the most part he plays well. The biggest difference between Toews and Kane is that Toews is the smarter player, he thinks before he acts, and he sees the ice better. Sometimes this has been detrimental as he will hold on to the puck too long. Kane plays the game very fast, and many times, he'll get rid of the puck when he shouldn't. I cringe the 20-30x a game this happens. Kane will have me ulcer-ridden by the end of the year at that pace.
As for whining, Savard and the refs claim that Kane is whiny. Diving? When have Blackhawks been known to take a dive? Hell, there have been times the last few years where I wish the team would have taken a dive because they would have gotten a power-play out of it.

As an American, and a Pens fan, I'd like to point out a few things. In America we have the "innocent until proven guilty" concept built into our legal system, which means that the burden of proof lies with the cabbie, who he, himself says that this incident is blown way out of proportion. He doesn't seek a felony conviction. If I were brutally beaten by ANYONE, I'd him prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.... I'm assuming you weren't a witness to this, so you don't know the whole story, and Patrick Kane hasn't even told his side yet, either. Do you know how easy it is to make a police report? I could go right now and tell them that YOU assaulted me, even though I've never met you. Sidney Crosby is one of the best players in the NHL. Do you really think he cares if people think he's a whiner? He doesn't need you to defend him; hell, he doesn't even defend himself. He is very classy guy and lets his play speak for him.

When a player is good, people are always going to diss them. Most of the time it is more out of respect and the dissing is just that the player is not on the accusing persons favorite team. Kane should take it as a compliment, and Go Hawks.

This is incredibly funny because good old Bill spends 90% of his time on here putting down Sidney Crosby, who doesn't play for his Flyers. The player who finished second for ROY when he was 18, won the scoring title and MVP his second year at age 19 and is tied for first in scoring this year at age 20. As for Kane, I haven't heard any dissing where I'm at, but then again, I don't follow that team. Just ignore the ignorant masses, dude.
Awesome: If your edit is true, then I apologize, I've only seen your Sid is terrible because he only scored once tonight rants. And for the record, although I think Sid is one of the most dynamic players in the league, I'm not ready to place him next to Gretzky. Not for another 5 years or so.

I haven't heard anyone "hating on" him, I've actually heard a lot of praise and how he is a leader on the Chicago Blackhawks. I know its never good when your best player is in his first season but I went through it 3 years ago with Ovechkin, who is still the best player on the Caps. :-)

That's news to me, I thought the Blackhawk fans were crazy over him. Unless you are talking about fans of other teams who put him down simply because he doesn't play for their team.
JAY - you obviously understand the subject of ignorant masses. And your estimate was wrong. I spend 100% of my time arguing against the fans who have blindly annointed him as the greatest this early in his career. And I have gone on record praising him many, many times.
JAY - That's okay, I suppose I do spend much of my time refuting the types that I mentioned above. I apologize for any offense to you and toward any player you like. I think Crosby is very talented and has the potential to become the greatest forward of all time, but for me he has to earn that distinction like every other player has to. And when I think it's time, I won't hesitate to call him the greatest. But that's what all great players have needed - time to prove their worthiness.

Not sure. Being a Wings fan, I shouldn't like him, but he's the best thing to happen to Chicago since, hmm...deep dish pizza? I always said that I wanted Chicago to become a competitive team again, so it would be interesting to see a Detroit/Chicago matchup, since it got boring watching the Wings make them their bitches last season. But since the Wings haven't beaten Chicago YET this year, I take that statement back. WAY back.
