An MPs parliamentary salary is £60,277 from 1 November 2006.
This doesn't include any monies they get from being board members and directors of companies and the like.

It varies from country to country, but in wealthier, (so called) democratic countries such as the United states or Britain they get paid roughly 20 times the average wage, but however they tend to sell contracts to companies their families and friends have shares in or own, which earns them extra income on top.
In less "free" countries I'd say politicians pay them selves what they want. Politicians also have things like food, travel and housing paid for.
I dare say politicians have a tough job in comparison to some, my initial opinion would be to state that politicians should only be paid the average wage, however this could leave them open to more corruption, I believe though in this present age with the continued existence of the limited liabilaty corporation that far to many people are getting involved in politics for the wrong reasons, but whats changed huh!

Entirely too much, in my humble opinion.
I take the position that their salaries and perks should be pegged to the median average income for their home district, and fully taxed, without any allowable exemptions during their time in office.
I think such a situation would make government a hell of a lot more responsible!

a british MP gets a basic £60,000 a year but in practice they get at least twice that through an expenses account. senior government officials get £100,000 - £160,000 whilst the PM gets around £180,000 - not bad i suppose
