haha yes, i try to pretend like i've been there hundeds or times and know the ins and outs of the place..or like i'm a working visa and i'm not really a tourist. However, when things get a little rough, other tourists can be your best friends!

No, not at all. In fact, I find that when I'm on holiday I'm much more open and friendly to strangers than I normally would be back at home. That's due to a lack of inhibition and stress, I guess.

Besides, they're on holiday to relax and have fun too, so we already have something in common. Might as well enjoy it with whoever is around.

Yes I do - I deliberately try to blend in with the locals.

I find this is particularly effective in Japan where - because I simply look so at home - nobody notices I am a 6 ft caucasian male who can't speak Japanese.

Yes, maybe it is silly.
I usually try to stay away from people who talk too much (usually useless chattering ...) , from noice ...
I think that, in my case it is not a matter of tourists but of silence: on holday i need peace, beauty and a bit of loneliness to listen to my inner voice.
