Hi,
There is a difference between manufactured DVDs. They are produced as Plus or Minus. It seems your burner can write only one mode. When you buy a DVD, please check if your burner support the format or not.

If the dvd burner brand is sony, that could be your problem. Sony is known for making products that only work in conjunction with other sony products. Do yourself a favour, buy a samsung dvd burner. They are cheap and reliable.

I hope you have purchased in India or you have international warranty. Call service engineer and ask them to rectify the settings. I have also experienced similar problem in US so I have returned it and purchased from Dell.
