I know the ideal number of W in a student's record is zero, but,in order to tranfer (from a community college to a 4-year college) how many would the Administration of that university will accept?

After speaking with the dean of my university (of the business school), they said that withdrawing from a class is sometimes very necessary. She said that having three or less is absolutely justifiable.

There isn't any absolute number, but unless you had to drop out of an entire semester (which might be seen as a sign of a family emergency or illness, rather than an impending failure), usually one is completely acceptable. Any more than that would be seen as somewhat questionable.

You should ask your advisor with the school you are transferring to. My advisor said that a couple "W" is fine when transferring.
