It seems like the only time I can really get to work and force myself to focus is when an assignment will be handed in or test is the next day. I start reading these things I know that I need to know for my major and for the things I find interesting but I still let my mind wander. I become impatient with the text and go on to some fiction I find interesting...or go online (the more likely case), I know I am smart but I KNOW I am not reaching my potential because of my laziness. Tomorrow I am going to make a schedule of readings and keep myself in the library in one seat with my work. Any other suggestions, I really hope my idea works. I HAVE NO DISCIPLINE!

You're really selling yourself short! You do have discipline! First, you realize what the problem is and are addressing it! So many people never do that! You have a great idea! You might want to break your homework time into blocks...say...read or do homework for 2 hrs...then do something you enjoy for an hour and go back to homework. Reward yourself and give yourself a break! You'll do just fine!

If you have several small assignments, set aside time to complete them by making a weekly planner.

If you have one big assignment, break it down into smaller parts, and schedule yourself to complete each part.

Also, if the internet is not required for your assignment, unplug it. This will keep you focused on your work. Turn off the TV and remove any excess materials from your work/study area. This will keep your mind clear from distractions.

These are all proven methods for improving study habits and grades. However, if you tell yourself, "I've got another five days before it's due" you will procrastinate until you have 5 hours.

Let's face it: Big assignments are stressfull. Just draw up a completion schedule and adhere to it. You'll decimate your stress by simply having a schedule and eliminate it when you finish.

I hope this helps, and best of luck with your assignments!

Just pull yourself together and buckle down. When you feel that your mind is wandering from your work get up and move around a little or go outside for some fresh air. You have to be your own disciplinarian. Don't wait until the last minute to do things.
