Hitler's only true claim to fame was that he ignored the treaty of Versailles (the treaty that ended WW1). It was poorly written in that it put unrealistic financial burdens and military limitations on Germany, and was unenforceable. Hitler realized this and built up the military, putting everyone to work, and pulling Germany's economy out of the toilet. The German people were so happy with this that they did whatever he suggested, even robbing and persecuting Jews.
