Barbeque, barbecue and bbq can have different meanings depending on where you are, and can even vary from region to region within a state. For example, in North Carolina, "barbecue" usually describes a type of pulled pork that has an "Eastern" and "Western" style of bbq sauce depending on where you are in the state. In Texas, "barbecue" usually refers to beef brisket.
What all of these have in common is a method of cooking that uses a low temperature, and cooks slowly, usually incorporating "smoking" such as with hickory, cedar, pecan wood or chips that have been soaked.
In other places, barbeque, barbecue and bbq describe an event, a cookout, where people gather together for great food and fun.
In still other places, barbeque, barbecue and bbq describe the actual device that is used to cook outdoors (i.e. "shrimp on the barbie")
Grilling generally refers to things that are cooked quickly, over a direct fire, like steaks, burgers, pork chops, boneless chicken breasts, etc.
For us, grillin' is just another convenient way to describe all of the above. So call it what you like, but please don't ever call us late for dinner. :-)

A BBQ is cooked outdoors on a (wait for it!) BBQ! the heat coming from underneath the hotplate, Grilling is done under the griller in your oven with the heating element above the meat. OK?

A BBQ will have flames from charcoal.
While a grill is usually just heat... charcoal is not a must. You can grill in an oven too, but not BBQ in an oven
