Bird flu is potentially deadly to humans - if the H5N1 virus mixes with the human flu virus, it can become a new deadly strain of flu virus that can pass from human to human - it would be devastating. There was a major flu pandemic early last century that originated from the H5N1 virus - many people died.
Remember that flu is a virus, so antibiotics would have no effect. The only drugs that can make flu less severe are anti viral medicines, and the UK does not have enough anti virals for everybody.
A vaccine could be developed if this new strain of flu develops and key workers would receive the vaccine first - along with Gordon Brown and his family!

The type of flu that the birds had is called H5N1, and it CAN be caught by humans from birds, it just can't be spread from person to person.
The problem with bird flu is that there is a risk that it might mutate into a kind of flu that can easily be spread from one human to another.
This is more likely to happen if lots of people catch the disease, so it is really important that the birds aren't allowed to spread it to humans.
The last time a bird flu virus mutated directly to a type that could be transmitted between humans was in 1918, and it killed 40 million people - more than died in the whole of world war one.

Bird flu is harmful but not by eating poultry or egg. The virus transfers through the air and therefore the waste or feather of sick birds is a potential source of the illness. So, birs should be put donw before transfering the viri to human beings.

The H5N1 strain is harmful to humans and is only safe in birds that have been properly cooked.
What if someone doesn't cook it enough?
It is a terrible shame for the animals, who are actually kept in quite shocking conditions for most of their lives anyway. Not to worry, M&S do a lovely prepared Breast of Turkey for about £10. Get one of those, or better still, use your imagination and have nut roast! Pref not your husbands.

Some forms of brid flu are harmful to man.The most well known one is H5N1 other forms of bird flu aren't harmful. The reason they don't just kill them and add them to the food chain is simple.Would you eat meat that you knew was diseased? I doubt it.

This strain of swine flu is a mixture of human, swine and bird flu. So you are partially to blame. Sorry.
