Last I heard he was still alive...but...then again....since there is'nt a free press corps down there, it might be old news or covered up news if he isn't.
I guess the question as to why he's hated is based on the conditions in Cuba. Here's America, what..90 miles away, one of the most prosperous nations in the world, the last super power, and they can't enjoy the 21st century of prosperity due to bad decisions in the past.
Cuba sided with Russia in the 60's during the Cuban missle crisis and they've been going back and forth with America ever since for the most part. Not really trying to work with us and getting rid of what seems to be tride and true standard practices for dictators.
Cubans understand why the tension between the countries but don't understand why their 3rd world dictatorship leaders haven't changed their mind or ways to become what could be a prosperous island nation if they would just change and become an ally to America.
Many times we set up rules as to who we bring santions against, and once done, and with good intent, our hands become tied later and can't simply brush them asside. It has always been up to the dictator to change his ways, and until he does, the sactions continue. I suppose that is why they want him to die.
