Because education that we have received tends to polarize our minds on most issues - so we tend to think that if we do one thing correctly and perfectly, then we are the best; but if we make a mistake and it results in failure then we think that we are a complete failure. But obviously that is no true because life is too complex to look at from such a polarized perspective.

I tend to believe that it's a lack of responsibility! When we own our reality, there's no more learned processus or background in our heart, we know and differenciate right from wrong. We never do anything perfectly or totally wrongly. Even kids, at an early age sense this. So, as much as we mature, we really know our mistakes and accept. If we don't, we're simply arrogant!

Well we all know we all make mistakes.
But make too many mistakes and you get tossed off the team. (or out of the relationship)
So it's natural to try and hide, minimize or shift the blame for one's mistakes.
Has nothing to do with childhood punishment, except that parental punishment is supposed to be preparatory for social punishment.

Carol Dweck, Ph.D., professor of psychology at Stanford, has been having great results helping people who are success-oriented and whose egos are involved in maintaining a rigid "I'm perfect or never make serious mistakes." "Mindset" is the name of her book.
"Man, Master of His Destiny," O. M. Aivanhov is also worthwhile. "Expecting Adam," Martha Beck, Ph.D., recounts how this brilliant person changed from that type of perfectionist personality. By so doing, she increased her learning curve, as she was no longer rigidly attached to her "must be perfect" intellectual armor which was thus restricting her ability to learn.

Those who won't accept that they have made a mistake is refusing to take responsibility for it. What they are missing though is that life is full of mistakes, and if we want to become better people we will acknowledge our mistakes and learn from them. Taking responsibility is a big problem for people now days.... very frustrating.

Accepting our own mistakes is a matter of maturity. The more maturity one posesses the more capable of accepting/admitting/acknowledging mistakes.

Most accept they have made a mistake, but admitting to it is another thing. It shows others we have flaws.

Because we have ego to behold. If we can penetrate that ego, we will learn to accept our mistake and stop being in denial...

in our own minds we are the IDEAL person. we dont make mistakes. if we dont accept them then others will still see us as the IDEAL person that we make ourselves out to be. its a shame.. and even tho we try to be humble those thoughts about perfection still lurk in our minds.
