** iMacs are NOT good for gaming. **
a) They don't have half the games PCs have.
b) They have a weak price-to-performance ratios, in terms of gaming.

If you can't build your own, I'd suggest a site like:

* http://www.alienware.com (very expensive but top-notch computers)
* http://www.dell.com (low to mid-ranged, expensive, but not as much)
* http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_tlc.asp?CatId=114 (TigerDirect is good for choosing a gaming PC. They have top-notch systems, as well as low to mid-ranged, and they are very reasonable, price wise).

Hope this helps!

If you like to play games at all, don't buy a Mac. Mac is the best way to go as far as how well their systems are built, but you'd have to install windows on it before you could really do much gaming.. Which is really a waste, because Vista takes up 20GB on your hard drive, and just eats up your ram. I'd probably go with Dell. Probably an XPS, but if you're short on cash and you don't need extreme performance, you'd be fine with an Inspiron. I wouldn't recommend the 1501 model, though. That's what I bought and it has alot more problems than I want to deal with.

Just buy it from a local PC shop that has been in business for a while, that's the best way to get a good desktop computer (and I'd only specify the computer for gaming since anything that can handle gaming will have no trouble with a word processor and web browser).

Unless you want a laptop ignore the idiot who suggest laptop models (and it is very unlikely that you'll want a mac, they're overpriced anyway).

It depends on your budget, but one of the best gaming comps out there is the Dell XPS M2010.
