Quite a lot!
But w/o writing a book I will suggest that we can Start by voluntering some of our time and best efforts in causes and issues that we are passionate about and that involve meeting and working with other people for something good.
I also think it would be a good idea to get involved in things that benefit the community we live in. Even if we can only do it a little it's always more than none. And again there's the meeting and working with other people for something good.

I really liked all of the answers here. But I believe that our future begins and ends with our children. I believe that it's ultra important for mothers to either stay at home with their children, or only work part time, so that they can spend alot of time actually interacting with, and nurturing their children. Kids who grow up with love and approval are naturally more gracious. Graciousness is taught in the home, and is taught generationally. If kids don't get it at home they're not gonna get it. Case in point: go into any super market, grocery store, or restaurant where there are parents with children. Kids aren't taught graciousness or manners any more. Begin by teaching graciousness to the children around you. Kids who know they're loved and valued WANT to please their parents.

By being more gracious ourselves, in our attitudes, thoughts and deeds. A living example is the best example by which others can learn.

In my life I have always worked towards attempting to keep to the following statement namely;
"Treat others as you would wish to be treated yourself".
Simple little saying but so true.

Kindness is contagious. When we least expect it people are watching us. We have to live our lives in a way that we simply lead by example.
