For me they are related: that Americans are generally trusting people who have a deep sense of fairness and decency.
Sometimes however, we trust too much in people and thus do we fall prey to sociopaths with power.

What I like most is that we as Americans have freedoms that many other countries don't. What I like least is that I seem to be losing these freedoms because people want to trade freedom for safety.

Like most:
Sense of fair play.
Standing up for the "little guy".
Defending Human rights.
Helping other countries with foreign aid, food, medicine, etc.
Standing up for freedom.
Like least:
Being so politically "correct" we have bowed to the Tyranny of the Minority.
The huge divide between the political parties today. It didn't used to be that way.
We've grown cynical and mean.
50 years ago people were kinder and more caring toward each other.

I think the opposite is true of Americans...
Try being a black guy approaching a car at night and see how "generally trusting" we are...
Try seeing a white-collar prison (which is really just another country club for corporate criminals) and comparing that to an AIDS clinic and see our senses of "fairness and decency"...
What I like most about America is that we can change what I just said, practically over night!

I like the melting pot that is America.
I strongly dislike the self-centeredness and arrogance that has been displayed by the left in insisting that Iraqi lives have no value in comparison to our own. I see it as the most flagrant example of modern day bigotry.

what I like least about Americans is that they, like all humans, have tendencies to want to define differences, by borders and such, rather than stressing our collective as a species

Like most? Their independent, free spirit to speak up and speak out, just as they can get up and travel.
Like least? Apathy that comes with being jaded in a political system that means well but doesn't walk the talk.
