I only got this stuttering problem with all players plus anything played from the net like CNN for instance.after the install of windows xp home edition 2004.

You must install all motherboard drivers FIRST!!!
Then, do all Windows Updates, including hardware, like audio, NIC and video drivers, under the Custom option.
Then, reboot and XP will play nice.

Try reinstalling your audio drivers.
