first i am assuming that by contenders you mean NE, IND, DAL, and GB with PIT not a contender yet depending on how indy fares with their injury problems.
for the AFC, pittsburgh is capable of winning in either foxborough or indy and if indy cant get over their injuries they will be playing IN pittsburgh instead of home for the divisional round. Jacksonville or Cleveland may be capable of upsetting one of the AFC contenders but wouldnt make it past the AFC championship game.
for the NFC, the giants have the kind of defense that could pull off an upset in the divisional round and detroit can score enough to also be a threat in the divisional round but i doubt either of them would actually make it to the superbowl
personally i see it as a 5 team race barring the unthinkable (season enders for brady, moss, manning, romo, owens, favre, rothlesberger) with everyone else capable of making to the championship game but not the superbowl.

Possibly Cincinnati. Chris Henry's return, plus a relatively soft remaining schedule (St. Louis, Miami, San Francisco, Arizona) could propel them to a decent second half...they have dates with Tennessee, Pittsburgh and Cleveland yet, and could be a threat to spoil some of their postseason plans.

Philadelphia Iggles.
You think our National Bird would allow such a team to be named after them. But they did just put the screws to Washington.
