I have possessed a security clearance that has expired. even though i have bad debt over the past 7 years, i have been current on all bills within the past 4 years. I have a plan set in place to pay off remaining debt within 2 years. I have also had inaccuracies in credit report still existing. Will I be able to get my clearance?

depends on the amount of debt, who it is owed to, what level of clearance you are applying for, and the policies of the issuing agency.

Personal debt or a history of it seems to be historically the motivating force for most of the spies that have become well known in the past.

Type does not matter. Amount and payment history does. The attempt is to weed out people desperate enough to sell out.

I have had 2 and was never aware of what they actually checked other than the FBI interviewing at least one neighbor. I had known him since grade school and he came over upset because he was smoking a joint when they showed up at his door.

i think that any outstanding debt can be used against you for most security clearance jobs. bankruptcy is also a biggie. NO clue why tho
