I'm having irregular menstrual cycles so my doctor is giving me provera, and I'm confused on what exactly it does and if there are any side effects.

I was also placed on Provera for 3 cycles. Provera is a progesterone analog. It helps by regulating the luteal phase of your cycle - or when the Lutenizing Hormone (LH) is the predominant reproductive hormone. (Pre-ovulation it is Follicle Stimulating Hormone or FSH which is predominant and during menstruation, both hormones are low.)
