Forget cute, diapers, onesies, baby laundry detergent, I got plenty of cute stuff for my baby shower, but the most useful, was the onesies and diapers and laundry detergent. I didn't have to buy diapers for a month, and I found I was washing clothes faster than he could wear them due to diaper leaks, ans spit up. Also maybe some snacks, for mom and some herbal teas or something relaxing. Baby will most likely have everything. The things I needed and didn't get were very cheap, such as infant nail clippers, bottle washers, nursing pads, diaper ointment. also one of the most helpful gifts was a basket containing a CD of soothing music, baby wash, infant Tylenol, big soft fluffy towel, and wash cloth. Sorry but the towels made for infants suck and are not very absorbent.

No offense. Don't waste the money on a designer diaper bag. There are a lot of things a new mom needs more than being able to say she has a bag with a namebrand. I would look at her registry and spend the amount of the diaper bag on something nice from her registry. She may need a stroller, swing, exersaucer. For inexpensive ideas I would buy bibs, pacifiers, pacifier attachement, toys like rattles and teethers.

You can always go with a cute outfit, pajamas, or blankets, but I liked receiving baby books for my kids. That way, she can put the birth certificate, pictures, baby footprints, medical records, milestones and other information in it. Or maybe a baby themed photo album for pictures of the baby and/or the baby shower. Both of those can be $15 and under and you can get them at card stores, Walmart, Target, Babies R Us, etc. Maybe you can wrap up the photo album and instead of putting a bow on the package, you can tie a Baby's First Christmas ornament (or rattle, etc.) to it.

Because of the season I would recommend a terry footed sleeper... in a unisex color like yellow, pale green or white... in size 3-6 months. You always get tons of newborn stuff that the baby grows out of in a matter of weeks. It's nice to get the next size up. I know I would have appreciated that with my son.

Burp rags. Either the cutesy embroidered ones, or just plain cloth diapers. Mom can never have enough of these!

Never have enough sleepers. Wrap it, and put a bow with a rattle or teether attached to it.
