Heres an idea. Throw it at a wall and if it shatters into a million pieces then nothings wrong with your computer (anymore)..lol You should call dell and start complaining and not just ask for help. Tell them what all youve lost and want to get all your stuff back. If they say they cant help you then call again.

Did you hear? Dell is the new Microsoft... they designed, developed and manufactured the Windows XP and Vista operating system and are to blame for everything that could ever go wrong with that software. Good reason to get mad at your Dell system. I'm not trying to be rude, but does this make sense?
When you call Dell, you are talking to hardware support... that means that they are able to help you with hardware because they manufactured the hardware, as in the system. They won't replace a full system under warranty because of a software issue. The warranty covers parts. Sorry.
They aren't the experts on the software made by Microsoft. What makes better sense here? If you are having problems with your tax software by Intuit.. you call Intuit. If you are having issues with XP or Vista.. why don't you call Microsoft? They would have the experts to answer your questions.
The only reason people call Dell for their OS issues is that it came on the system. That's only because people don't want a system with nothing on it, they don't want to install before they can use it, so Dell does it for you... end of their knowledge on that matter.
It sounds to me like you have a corrupt user profile. Here is a link from the Microsoft site that will help you copy data from a corrupt profile to a new one. This one is for XP:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811151
This one is for Vista:
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/769495bf-035c-4764-a538-c9b05c22001e1033.mspx
If you can log in as the Administrator, log in and open an Explorer window (right click on the start button or pearl in Vista and select Explorer). There is a documents and settings folder on the C: drive. That should contain the folders of the other user accounts, which should contain the files that are missing under each user.
I hope this helps... and you are able to solve your problem.
Microsoft... who needs em!

Haha I like your last question. Compaq typically 'under builds' their computers, making them not fast enough to run the OS they claim to support -- a good reason why you should never ever buy the cheapest computer in the store. That said there could be a number of reasons why it is not performing up to scratch, the most possible one being that maybe the computer is not up to scratch. What is the model of computer you are having problems with? (ie: Dell Inspiron T100F)

Dell,
has always been difficult, and when something goes wrong with them, it is a ***** and a half ot get them fixed and they cost a lot of money. i had a Dell Inspirion 1600 or something and my ex kicked it off the table and i had to order a new screen.. they wanted me to send it away and have them install it and re program it and everything... and it would cost me 875.97 cents... without shipping charges and so on... it was pathetic, i could have bought i anew laptop.. which i did!
if you get a virus all you can do is get it reformatted... i know how to do all this **** myself.. hence why i wasn't going to pay 900.00 to get mine fixed...
If your computer is still under warranty... clal them and give them your informationa nd they should be happy to assist you with a new notebook or maybe a chance to get it fixed.. i mean what does your warranty state? if i were you i would ask if they could send you a new one! especially since it sounds like you spent about 1400 dollas like i did ! Good Luck! Bon Chance

I don't think you can blame Dell if everything was alright before you reinstalled Windows. I think it was your responsibility to keep backups.
Sorry - just my opinion. I, too, have learned the hard way -- the importance of keeping backups of anything important to me.
Suggest you buy some external storage - an external hard drive or a couple flashdrives. Flashdrives have come way down in price.

well something is wrong with that computer for sure. Dell may not know what it is or how to fix it yet....I would fight them for another computer....and if the info is really really important, I would take it to a reputable computer guy and have him save the necessary files. Yes you will have to pay for that but you have to decide if it is worth re-doing all the work or paying to have it saved.

Did you try going into account in "safe mode?"
Try hit f8 after the initial load up process. or just keep hitting f8 until you get to windows screen. By the way Dell's do suck. Sorry!

Your documents are still there, the profiles are just damaged. Browse to c:/documents and settings/[user name]/
Anytime you reinstall Windows, make sure you back up all your data first.

take your problem to a consumer advocate, like a reporter that goes to big companies to get your problem addressed and solved.
You could also talk to a newspaper reporter or Kim Komando, PC Mag, etc
