Some cell types are specialized to synthesize one protein. They have rough endoplasmic reticulum to synthesize the protein for export.

If there is a signal sequence at its N-terminus it will be directed to the ER, where it can enter the secretory pathway. Note that not all proteins made in the ER are secreted. Some of them are sent to other compartments in the cell, and some become membrane proteins. But in order to be secreted, it pretty much has to have this signal.

i may be wrong but i believe it has to do with how many amino acids are present and specifically which ones
