Technically an adding shortcut. That's why we have to memorize the tables as kids.
2x4 is also the same as 2+2+2+2 or 4+4
6x3 is the same as 6+6+6 or 3+3+3+3+3+3

Multiplication, when applied to math is the quick adding together of the same number. For example, 2 multiplied by 4 is the same as 2+2+2+2 (two added to itself 4 times) or 4+4 (4 added to itself two times).

multiplication is like adding but easier
for example
5x5=25 or 5+5+5+5+5=25
5x6=30 or 5+5+5+5+5+5=30 or 6+6+6+6+6=30
