call of duty 4 prestige mode?

OKAY ive heard like 30 different things about it...
how many times do you have to do it?
And what do you get from it?

Prestige Mode is when you attain level 55 on Call of Duty 4 Multiplayer. It is something you can activate or completely ignore, as there are pros and cons of activating it.

When you activate prestige mode, your level drops back down to 1 and you lose all weapons and addons you gained by levelling up to 55. I am not sure about the challenges but I expect they would reset as well. Why would you do this?

Well as far as I'm aware you get a special "rank" next to your name. There is a new different rank every time you activate prestige mode up until the maximum I believe is 10 times. I also hear that you get a golden desert eagle when you activate it the first time, but I am not sure of this.

Another thing that I am not sure about, and am completely guessing here, is that there may be two perks that can only be got through prestige mode, as there seems to be two "locked" perk slots on the grid you see when you unlock a new perk through the game. Again I cant be sure, but it would be silly to have two slots there not to be used.

So basically, reach level 55 on online mode (for me thats Xbox Live), go to the barracks on the menu and activate prestige mode if you want a special rank next to your name in a trade for level 1 and no weapons, perks etc. Of course, you dont have to activate prestige mode; its entirely optional.
