Alright so I just renewed my world of warcraft subscription for the first time in about 3 months, and 3 times today my laptop just shut off as i was playing the game. The fan in my laptop is really loud and after my computer shut off the third time i went ahead and felt the underside of it and it was almost too hot too touch. I never had the problem before. It's a sony vaio, got it about 2 years ago. It has 1.86 GHz Intel Pentium M processor and 1 GB of ram so i dont think it has to do with anyover load on the system. What should i do.

Get your fans checked, it's possible that they are malfunctioning or defective.

One of the first things I did after buying a laptop was to buy a cooler for it. By watching the ads in our Sunday paper, I was able to pick up an Antec cooler for $9.99 after rebates (which I did get). I place the laptop on top of the cooler and I'm good to go. Suggest you check around and get a cooler.

There is also a nice item called EZ Lap which I just bought through Amazon. It, too, was about $10. This is so I can hold the laptop on my lap and allow air to flow beneath the laptop to cool it. Check it out at:

IGNORE ALL THE ANSWERS ABOVE! I THINK ITS BS!

Theres probably alot of dust in your heatsink. Buy "canned air" from Best buy, circuit city, office depot, or any computer/ office store. Don't worry, this only costs about $3- $7. Use the canned air to remove all the dust in the air intake port and all the holes in the laptop. make sure you hold the fan in a unbudging position. Do not use ur mouth to blow it, it could damage the fan. (i blown the fan before with my mouth, the blades broken off.)

My Toshiba did the same thing (I wasn't running warcraft). The motherboard eventually crashed. I suggest taking it to a local computer shop to see if they can improve the cooling system.

Take it to a professional computer repair center. Don't try it yourself because if you're not careful you may get more dirt in there or you could break something inside. Highly risky if you're not experienced in fixing computers.
