With all the modifications taking place in the broadcast world (Digital, High Definition...etc.) I was wondering how much longer the NFL would be broadcating its games in the standard frame format?

Every Sunday (and Monday night) I have to crop the picture to fill the entire widescreen of my television...this is rather annoying considering it cuts off the score and other information on the top and bottom of the screen.

What I find sort of amusing is the NFL proudly advertises the Samsung (which I would avoid at any cost) widescreen HDTV as the "offical television of the NFL." Yet all the games are still brought to us in the dull standard frame format...why go as far as to promote something like a widescreen television and broadcast in HD then disappoint its viewing audience by not being able to view the game in widescreen?

Thoughts? Rants? Answers? Opinions? Let's have 'em!

Actually, the games have been available in HD for at least 2 years. (I bought my HD set 2 years ago.) At that time all of the major networks (FOX, ABC, NBC, CBS and ESPN) have been broadcasting for sometime in HD. I know NFL network is now in HD also. Even some of the Sunday Ticket games are also HD on DirectTV

Depending on your market and your TV (if it has a builtin ATSC receiver, and I think all HD sets sold within the last year or two are required to have one), you can receive over the air )broadcast) HD signals. This will give you the Big 4, FOX, ABC, NBC and CBS. All you need is an antenna.

If you have cable or a dish, you will need to purchase/rent an HD capable box from your provider. Both dish providers have great HD lineups compared to cable. The cable companies have little more then than the Big 4 and ESPN in HD (I am talking to you Time Warner), but those will score you almost all of the NFL games. Most cable providers do not have NFL network, though.

In short, you need to talk to your provider an get the correct box. I cannot speak for sattelite, but for cable, the HD box is only $2.00 more a month than a standard box. If you you have to watch boradcase TV, go to the local RadioShack or Circuit City and get an antenna.

Trust me, there is nothing like watching a game in HD. It is like being a the game.

I have a LG 42" HD TV and I have never had to adjust any of the NFL telecasts. Maybe it's your TV.
