A collage degree sounds like something in art. Did you mean college degree?

I work in the field of my degree because my degree was oriented toward preparing me for a job in that field. Examples: Pharmacology = pharmacist, Vetinary medicine = Vet, Sociology = social worker, Rehabilitation and Special Education = Vocational Rehab counselor or Special Education teacher. My daughter, however, earned a liberal arts degree that was not geared toward a specific job. Depending on where she lives, though, the business community welcomes her with open arms for having earned her "right of passage," sticking with college.

Yes I have a degree and no I am not working in the field of my degree although I did for a number of years before I got my degree and 10 years after I got my degree. After that I started a Business in a completely unrelated field and was able to retire after a number of years with a much higher income than I would have been able to have if I had remained working for some one else in the field that my degree is in. That is not to say my degree was not worth the effort, time and money it took to acquire it. But I would not hesitate to recommend going in to business of your own in an unrelated field over going to work for some one else in your degree related field. Of course you need to have some basic knowledge of the business you intend to go in to and enough money to sustain your livelihood until you can start turning a profit. Hard work and long hours will help you overcome the mistakes you make from lack of knowledge of your new business. You might fail but you pretty much know where you will be financially down the road working for someone else. Whereas working for your own company your income is only limited by how well you run the business and how much you expand. Get after it man and lots of luck.

No I don't and there are lots of people who do things other than their degree. I'm trying my best now while I'm in college to get the right degree. I just want to do something I like instead of getting a degree to make a lot of money. So go for it! Good luck and maybe pick up a course in business at your local community college =)

As long as your degree is relatively general, you should be okay. Many employers just want "a college degree." They don't actually specify what discipline it must come from.

This is, of course, different if you are in the sciences. A geology degree wouldn't transfer into a job as a chemist. Obviously.

If you find that you do need to get another degree, don't think you'll be starting from scratch - most likely, you'll just need to complete the core classes required for your second degree, especially if you still live near (and will attend) the institution from which you received your first degree.

Good luck!

No, I was never any good at collages...too much cutting and pasting for my liking.

I do have a college degree, though and am working in a related field. My husband on the other hand does nothing CLOSE to his degree. As long as you have one...that is the main thing.

A college degree won't do much for you if your resume shows that you have a "collage" degree in a different "filed" than the job you are applying for.

Oh, and more to the point, if you intend to start your own business what does it matter? Unless you're going to interview yourself and turn yourself down because your degree is in the wrong field, then you don't have much to worry about.

Yes I do and I do work in my field and have for 15 years.

My boyfriend however doesn't but grew up with the technology and kept up on the knowledge. His experience is about a Master's degree although he doesn't have the paper.

I do have a college degree. (it's not collage - a form of art).

Yes I do work in my field. But doing business is fine you could use your degree for ventures and innovations.

Good Luck to you!
