Most science books do not associate the hydrologic cycle with purification. Do remember that it is a cycle and not a circle. This purification can be done either physicaly or chemically. As water goes through physical changes, from one state of matter to another then certain impurities held in a state of suspension may be left behind thus purifying the water. Groundwater passing through geological formations acting as seives may filter these impurities as well. As plants and animals obsorb water their bodies will seperate impurities, even those that are chemically bonded. What we often see as gross is actually nature at work cleaning up our mess. Water is the most recyclable substance in the world. The glass of water you drink today may have been Dino spit 60 million years ago.
