I'm going to go ahead and answer the second part first for the sake of explaining this. Okay so, 70% is really just another representation for 70/100 which when you divide is .70. So to find 70% of 40 all you have to do is multiply 40 by .7, which gives you 28. Alright so for your first problem all you have to do is multiply 18 by 1/3/. This is because 33 1/3 percent is really a fraction just like 70%. However it is a repeating decimal which makes it tricky to write down. Therefore you can just multiply by the fraction and get the same answer. So 1/3*18=6

33 1/3 * 18 / 100 = 18 / 3 = 6

70 * 40 / 100 = 2800 / 100 = 28

I always work out 10% first coz that is always easy...then multiply the answer....(in ur case 7)
So; 70% of 40

10% = 4 x 7 = 28...

the real way to do it is to go; 40 x 70 / 100.
