What should I be looking for?

All systems that are returned to Dell because they either "Don't match my hair color" or "it doesn't meet my needs" must pass inspection to ensure that they are in proper working order before they can be resold. If they are returned as having a part defective, they aren't resold, they are dismantled for parts. The parts must pass inspection and testing again, before they can be resold.

They are also given a warranty if they are returned from lease. If they are just returned because they aren't wanted anymore, then the warranty that was purchased on the system by the first owner follows the system, not the owner. You can also upgrade your warranty before the existing one expires (up to a total of 5 years).

There isn't anything wrong with them.

Oh and to clear up something someone else said... by federal law, if a box of parts is opened and touched by human hands, it ceases to be considered a "new" part but becomes a "refurbished" or "used" part. It does not necessarily mean that it has actually been used in another system or fixed in any way.

I would look for at LEAST 1GB of memory (RAM), at least 1.8GHz processor, and a resonably sized hard drive, maybe 120GB. Actually, it really depends on what you are going to do with it... gaming will require much higher everything. If you are surfing the web, checking email and the like, the above would be fine. You decide.

Good Luck with your purchase!

Just to give you a little info.
Dell does not repair using refurb parts.
The only one that has this record is Gateway. That is the reason they have about went out of buisness.
Dell is the #1 Computer Manufacture, and there support is the best out there.

We bought a new computer from Dell with custom features for a BIG price. After a month it started smoking. We sent it back for repairs and they replaced something with a "recycled" part. They wouldn't tell us what part it was.
