Sorry, but I'm 27 and I have no idea what is going on in high schools anymore. I thought I was keeping up with the times but I guess not. Can anyone help explain things to me? Thanks!

Dunno about goths. I spose there a few around. But from reading the other comments people are making emos sound terrible. In fact they are just a goup of mainly teenagers that have the balls to rebel and go against society norms. Good on them for that. The cutting and the crying are rumours. Its just a lifestyle, a clothing choice, a music choice. Im emo but i dont cut myself, cry in public, have depressing choppy hair. I listen to emotive hardcore music, i wear black, a agree with theiir thoughts. There are varying degrees of emo. Adults are terrified of us and seem to assume where some sort of psycotic cult, but were are just young people sick of the bullsht that is what the world is. Sick of being plastic and following the norms. We just want to be us without judgement.

I'm a year younger than you so we're basically the same age. But I think I can answer your questions.

Is goth done now? Honestly, I thought goth was done around 2000. But somehow, people still walk around dressed like Nine Inch Nails fans from 1997 like they think their style is still shocking. I don't understand how anyone can not see through that old, tired style. But unfortunately, goth is still alive.

What is emo? Emo is a term that is short for "Emotional". It came about in the mid 1990's to describe indi-rock bands that had an... emotional...sound to their music. But the original emo bands sounded more like regular alternative rock. Gradually, the emo style evolved into a form of ULTRA SAPPY, cheesy, whiny, juvenile punk music with a theme of how it's the end of the world because some little relationship went wrong. And starting around the year 2000, a fashion style developed to go along with the emo trend. This fashion styles basically is like early 80's punk, but with maximum effort put towards looking as nerdy, skinny, weak, and femmy (for guys) as possible. The idea behind that is that the nerdier you look, the more sad and heartbroken you must be. It's so weird to think that there is a style where it's considered cool for a guy to look weak, nerdy, and femmy.

I hope I answered your question.

Well, to be technical, emo comes from emotive hardcore, a spin off of punk.

Nowadays, as with goth, it has nothing to do with the music it once was.

Emos are stereotypically portrayed as whiny kids with black, shiny hair, black skinny jeans, and bangs in their eyes, that cry about their life, slit their wrists (across the street, not down the road) and write bad poetry. Some of them like dinosaurs, rainbows, and a sort of return to childhood.

goth evolved into emo, emo are the kids that walk around and they are like crying all the time, and they think their lives are so hard, basically they are the kids that when you see them you want to beat them, then tell them that they NOW have a reason to cry
