Sorry but the first thing I thought of was a little boys private part (Willy is a common nickname for those in Australia, not sure about where you are) and then I thought of Billy Joel too...
I think William or Liam Joel are good ideas, or Joel William, if you are attached to these names and don't mind variants on your original choice. In all fairness I had a Great-Grandfather named Willie (born in 1879) so maybe it was popular back then? Sometimes I saw he called himself William instead - perhaps it was embarrassing for him as an adult? What might seem cute as a baby won't necessarily stay that way as they age.

Willie in the UK is a little kids' euphemism for penis.

William Joel Armistead would be lovely - and you've a few diminutives to pick from then ...

aaargh ... Billy Joel? What am I thinking? might work though - nobody's heard of him since the 80s

He might hear a lot of Billy Joel references. Could you do William Joel or Joel William and call him Willie for short?

I like it! I've always liked the name Willie. Though others are right, there would be a lot of Billy Joel referances. I still like the name, though.

Lose the Willie, keep the Joel.

He will get teased with a name like Willie, just being honest.

Willie Joel...nope...I just imagine a backwoods moonshiner. Sorry.

Just remember that this is his name for life. Does it sound good as a Buisnessman? Could you see his name on a door name plate as a CEO? Something to think about.

not a great deal - separately they are okay names - but the person above is right; it's a bit too close to 'billy joel'
