My grandpa's name was Amos and I really like it and is thinking about it for my son's name. I never met my grandpa so it would be a cool sentiment. Full name would be

My husband says it sounds like a sissy name.

I like it and "old fashioned" is really popular now. Look at the lists of the top baby names and you will see that for yourself. I think he would fit in rather nicely with his peers. I think it sounds cute for a little kid and still respectable for and adult as well. Tell your husband that he can pick a middle name. I let my husband pick the middle name from a VERY long list of names that I didnt all out hate. Maybe if he can pick the middle name and it sounds more "tough" to him he will be happy. I found this as well:
The name Amos is a baby boy name. The name Amos comes from the Hebrew origin. In Hebrew The meaning of the name Amos is: Strong; carried; brave. Amos was an 8th century B.C. Old Testament prophet.
maybe the meaning of the name will convince him its not a sissy name!

Amos is not old fashoined - it's classic! It has charm which is rare on all the fancy-schmancy new names. I do not like Lee as a middle name though. I am afraid I must agree with your husband and say it sounds a little sissy. However if it is a family name you can not live without then use, but I prefer it for a girl. Amos Robert is a fantastic name! I suggest you use that.

I actually quite like it, especially with the special sentiment. ;)
Quirkier Biblical names are making a comeback, so it's not unusual to see Levi, Ezra, Malachi, Abram and Gideon on a list right alongside Matthew, Joshua, Eli, Jacob and Jadon. ;) Not too "old fashioned" by any means.
"Amos Lee" does sound an awful lot like "famously," however. Just an association I couldn't avoid. Does the middle name choice hold special meaning as well?
Edit: I'm not sure what "data" Debbie's concocted (LOL), but since Amos was among the top 1000 MOST COMMON names all but three years from 1880 to 2003, it's amazing that "Amos was last used as a child's name in 1903." What's a measly century when you're talking statistics, right? ROFL So to reiterate, Amos is most certainly not unheard of, even in 2007. ;)

Amos Lee Wood sounds a bit old fashioned, but I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing:) I also like Amos as a first name.

Congratulations to you for using a family name for your baby - I wish more people would do this instead of making up weird and unusual combinations that don't mean anything. We named our sons after ancestors too and I hope they will feel proud about the fact in years to come. My eldest son has the middle name Harry after my Grandfather whom I never met either - he died in World War 2 and all I know is that he was a good man. I feel I have honoured his memory in my son.
I like the name Amos and I think it is unusual without being too unusual and being old fashioned is not so bad - I used to work in child care and there was a baby there named Amos - he was really cute and it suited him so well. Don't worry about negative opinions, it is a really good choice. I personally don't like the name Lee but if it means something to you it is your choice. Amos being a short name might go better with a longer name.
All the best!

Robert Amos sounds good. nn could be Rob, Robbie, but i also like Amos Robert. Amos Wood. It's not popular but to me that's a plus and it has family history attached to it. and it's not sissy. Very good choice, you are thinking of a name with personal meaning and one that will sit well on a man not just a baby.

Well, What's yor husbands name? or what names does he like?
Perhaps you two should sit and make a list of names you both enjoy/like or what have you... I am sure something pleasant will come up soon enough.
BTW, I like the name Amos, at least he won't end up being "Amos M" or "Amos D" you know like 1 of 5 in his classroom.
Robert Amos
Amos Robert
Lee Amos
Congrats and Good Luck!

I think Amos could be just fine, but the Lee throws it off (although, really, who uses their middle name in daily life?). Amos Russell Wood? Amos Christopher Wood? Amos Michael Wood? Etc. Something more typical that you and hubby like for the middle name so if they're having a hard time growing up with the name Amos they can go by the middle. It was typical for men in Grandpa's era to go by their middle name anyway.

I had a friend named Amos and he wasn't teased about it... there's nothing wrong with old-fashioned names. At least you're not naming him Jayden or Dakota...
As for Lee, it's not my favorite name (although it's my middle name, I was named for a grandfather) but there's certainly nothing wrong with it.
I think it's a fine name. If you're unsure though go with Amos Robert, that way he can always choose to be called Robert if he likes.

I really like it!
But if you husband doesn't I would use it as a middle name.
I think that Amos is a great name-- not common at all.
My husband thinks that it is " a ridiculous" name, so I don't think that it seems to be popular with men!
What about the name Matthew Amos?
Matthew means gift of God and the two sound so good together.
