Why do you think people pick on others?

There are two main reasons: immaturity and lack of security.

Children in High School are still immature and it has been proven that the social skills in their brains are still under development so they don't know just how cruel they really are. It is frightening’ compared to a cat playing with its prey the adolescent human makes the cat look like a nun. At least the cat finishes off its prey fairly quickly.

Second because they are not as well developed, mentally as adults, they are unable to operate well in a social environment so they try to promote themselves at the cost of others. It is easier to make themselves look good by bulling or insulting someone else and bringing them down to a level beneath you than it is to try and stand out on your own merits.

This is what makes high school children the cruelest creations in nature and some of the most volatile and dangerous. Put that into a sea of raging hormones with the first discovery of sex and you have a very potent mix. Now throw in someone who has a weakness, or at least a perceived weakness, and you have a regular feeding frenzy that makes feeding sharks look tame.

People pick on others for the following reasons:
a. They don't like what that person looks like. The person could be better looking and they are jealous. Or the person could be strange looking.
b. They want to make someone laugh.
c. They think that picking on someone will make them look better in front of others. Some people that pick on others could have been picked on before and they are trying to distract people from picking on them.
d. They are annoyed by the person. Perhaps their target smells or does irritating things.
e. The person being picked on could also be poor and does not have the money for certain things or they could be rich and thought of as a goody goody.

I could go on. I see it all because I work in a school. People and in my case (small people = kids) can be cruel.

People pick on other people just because they want to gain attention or just want to be friends. Bullies have complex ways of showing off and one of these ways are through picking on other people. They think they will get respect on other people because they are greatly feared.
Another reason is that they want to be friends. They want to know other people because they are insecure but because of their shyness they result being noticed by bullying.
Next time they pick on you,think. Are they insecure or they just want to know you.

I believe that that is the only way that some of us know how to make ourselves feel better and look good is to try and do it at someone Else's expense.They only know how to make themselves seem superior by putting others down when in all reality that makes them seem inferior to me with low self esteem and huge insecurities.

Because they think they are King/Queen of themselves. They are the ones with problems and pass it along to the people they pick on so they can't blame themselves.

People who pick on other people do it because it feeds their ego.

They have a self-esteem issue and it makes them feel good to make other people suffer.

the nerd has a future the bully has no future
the nerd has no muscles the bully has guns

bully feels intimidated, has low self esteem
probably parental issues or gets no love

nerd gets what he wants

Because it's fun. It's also fun to get picked on. There's a difference between getting picked on and getting abused.
