You know, I used to feel much like that too, that people who said "thank you" to someone like me really didn't care to mean it....
But then something happened. Most folks ended up forgetting their manners *entirely*. O_O I don't know how it happened, or why, and I know it's not really a good thing, but...
Now, as rare as it is, I know that if someone can actually be bothered to do it, that so long as they aren't being *Flagrantly* snarky or sarcastic, that the "thank you" is real and genuine. So I usually reply in kind, with a "you're welcome" or a "thank you" in return, depending on the situation.
It still feels weird though. ^_^ Like I didn't deserve it. But these days I know that's just me, my lack of confidence talking, and that logically, rationally, well, why *wouldn't* people thank me? You know?
I hear you....hope this helps. ^_^ Have a star....

depends on the situation. my mom thanked me the other day for helping out at home, and it felt nice to hear that. most of the time, though, if feels like i hardly notice when someone says it; probably because it's just common courtesy and they're just saying it to be polite.

That they have been taught to say thank you. If it's heartfelt or not, I don't care. That's their problem, not mine,
