Possible virues, although most times thats because of hardware related issues. You might have a failing HD, a bad stick of ram, a failing Motherboard, a corrupted OS (hence your Windows is going south), you could be infected and the Viruse may force Windows to shut down, or any combination of the following. Would recommend that you take it to a computer repair technician and make sure to ask them to test your Harddrive, Ram, and see if there are any swollen capacitors on the motherboard (that last one only applies to desktop PCs, not laptops)
Unfortuantly thats why computers can be such a pain, there is no definite answer until you start elimitating things with diagnostic tests. And seriously, make sure they test those things because that can easily cause your PC to turn off unexpected.

It is either overheating or has faulty RAM.
For the RAM go to the Microsoft website and download windiag. it's an ISO file so you use your burning software to "burn image to disc" (Don't just burn a data CD with the image file in it) This creates a bootable CD. Boot from the CD and watch the test, after 10 minutes or so you will see if your RAM is faulty.
If it's overheating, it's time to pull it apart. You will need to clean out any fans and make sure they are working properly and pull the CPU heatsink off and renew the heatsink paste underneath. (It dries out and cracks up after a while). THe heatsink paste is available form places like Circuit City, Radion Shack and Frys. (Assuming of course you live in the USA)

Log in as admin from safe mode, and run VIrus scan to find out if there are something getting into your system. If you can't go to safe mode, you will need to perform system re-installation. Chek the RAM chip, too. Bad RAM may cause that.

My laptop used to do that, it slowly got faster and faster, until it didn't even turn on anymore. I still have it lying around somewhere. We will need more information to help you, pretty much anything could cause this problem.
