Who is that song written about or is it a mystery?

Carly Simon has never publicly revealed who the song is about but most people who at familiar with her life and career believe it was about actor Warren Beatty. She did have a fling with him in the early 1970s. There was also speculation that the song could have been about Mick Jagger but that was because he sang backup on it.

she says its a composite of people however she did reveal the secret for charity.i think barandon tartikoff or something bought the right to know and was sworn to tell noone but his wife!
