I had day surgery yesterday to remove a breast lump. I was told I could remove the larger bandages today (which I did) & to leave the tape that's over the incision. I was also told I can shower tommorrow but I'm worried that the tape might get loose when it get's wet? I'm assuming it must be ok if they told me I can shower but won't the water seep through?

If it is the steristrips that were put on after surgery, they should be fine.

Mine did not come off for almost two weeks, I showered the very next day after surgery just like you are allowed to do.

Just be sure to pat yourself thoroughly dry.

I had gallbladder surgery a few months ago and was allowed to shower the next day. The tape stays on and the soap and water keeps infection from settling in. I have had surgery many times and the tape they use now holds but they usually use steri-strips on the cut under the tape so if the tape came off the steri-strips would still be on the incision. They will come off naturally when they are suposed to.

You need not take a total shower. Just do a bathtub wash up.
Or you could attempt to cover the bandage with a baggie and tape it with duct tape. I would rather avoid getting the breast area wet but it is up to you. It won't be long before you can take a full shower. best wishes

You can shower and don't worry about the tape. It will be fine and so will the incision. If they wanted you to cover it when you shower they would have told you this.

it will be fine. i had a c-section 7 months ago and i'm pretty sure that they use the same "tape" stuff for your surgery. don't worry, it won't come off. after a while the ends will start to peel up a little bit, but you can just snip them off. no worries.

One of my best friend just recently got leg surgery, like 2 weeks ago and I'm pretty sure she showers. I think you should just wrap like alumnin foil or plastic around your bandages, just to be safe ^.

Call the surgeon's office and ask. You need certainty for post-op care.
