I posted earlier, I'm 38 wks. I lost my m.plug last week and for the past couple of hours been having bloody show, it feels and looks much different than mucus plug. I'm very crampy, but not steady hard contractions. This is my 5th baby and yes, it will be a c-sec, but wondering what comes next? Since I've had c-secs with others, never really got to go into labor on my own, so this is sort of new. Do reg contraction start immediately for everyone else or could it be later on tonight? Husband on night shift tonight, so want to wait till for sure need to go to hosp. Will my water break? Like I said, never been through the beginnings of this before. Having lots of menstral cramps, but waiting for the regular hard as a rock contractions. Trying to soak it all in and enjoy this last little bit, since it will be my last baby. What is the general timeline for these things and how did it happen for you? As I said, it's definately bloody show, not mucus plug, -

it's tons of clear snot with lots of blood in it. my plug was a huge cork of green/clear slime last week. Plus, I've been achey all day and then around 4-6 hours ago, started to notice the show. I'm thinking of trying to get some sleep, is that safe or crazy? But I feel really at peace, like this is what it's supposed to feel like. It's amazing how the body works and I"m just grateful I get to feel even what the beginnings of labor feels like. Thanks for all the help with what to look for next!

Definitely call your Dr. now. They don't want you to go into full on labor if you are scheduled for a c-section. They might want to do your c-section right away.

Are you having contractions already? Best to time them and see how long (or short) the intervals are between them. It's advisable to write it down. Note also if they are strong or weak contractions.

With patients having their first baby, a bloody show means that labor (and delivery) is about to happen in the next 24 hours. With patients who've had prior deliveries (whether normal or c-section), it is much sooner than that.

A breaking water bag can sometimes happen early or later in the labor process. If your water breaks, it is best to get yourself to the hospital as there is more chances of your baby getting an infection since he/she has no more protective covering inside you.

With this being your 5th child, I would be afraid to wait much longer before going to the ER. I did not have hurting pain with either of my births/labor. I had a tight feeling in my stomach, not water breaking, etc. The tight feeling did get closer together and I timed the feelings. I did not have the bloody show, either. I think I would freak out honestly. I would be afraid somthing was wrong, anyway, I would go to the ER and get checked tonight.

you can call your ob and let them know you had your show and because you are scheduled for a c- section they may want you to come in now or wait until your contractions are 5 mins apart or less. but because you have lost your plug and your having a bloody show its best to call the ob floor or a on call doctor and ask them.

I've only ever gotten my bloody show during labour, so far (we'll see with #3).

Average onset of labour after a bloody show, if you're not already in labour, is anywhere from 12-48 hours.

If you're having lots of menstrual-type cramping, you're on your way.

Good luck!

If your cramps are regular...tell your man to come home! If they are 4 minutes or less apart...tell him to meet you at the hospital and ask a neighbor for a ride! Don't play around... 5th baby could come quickly even if the others were c-sections!

I would call the doctor. When is your c-section scheduled for? I would have your husband call in and take you to Labor and Delivery.
