Beale Street is nice if you like Jazz. There is an amusement park called Liberty Land that is pretty good, and Mud Island has an artificial beach and a good museum about life on the Mississippi River.

1. Beale Street-just be VERY careful not to wander directly off the street. Downtown is a very dangerous place.
2. Tunica-45 minutes south in Mississippi, several casinos in the area.
3. Gibson guitar factory
4. Mud Island-don't know how it's been kept up, so it is a gamble on that one.
5. Sun Studios-very short tour, I will let you know.

Liberty Land has been closed for some time, so that's not an option. There are various historical landmarks throughout the city, particularly if you are interested in Elvis or such history (house on Audubon, Jerry Lee Lewis house in Senatobia, MS, etc.).

Word of caution, though, be VERY careful in the city. It has the nation's highest per capita violent crime rate.

Beale Street was a lot of fun, we also went to the Gibson Factory to see how the guitars were made. There was also a Stax museum although we didn't go there.

You must go to Sun Studios, the birthplace of rock n roll, we absolutely loved it but then it's the sort of music we're into.

Depending on when you are going, there is a big music festival in May which lasts for three days. We were only there for one night but saw Bryan Adams and BB King. It was called Memphis in May so look it up on Google.

Beale Street and the St. Jude's Children's Hospital. The second one might not seem like a fun place to go, but they are doing some great work there - if that kind of thing interests you then you owe it to yourself to visit at least once. Beale Street has about the richest "Blues" history on Earth - plenty of clubs to check out, including B.B. King's.

check out the elvis gift shop across the street from graceland. it is super duper tacky.........a laugh a minute. get a copy of his will, which is page after page of vanilla gobblygook for a few bucks, or pay much more for shag area rugs featuring a full face portrait of the king himself. And STAX / VOLT recording studio was there.....Booker T, Sam & Dave, Johnnie Taylor, Otis Redding, and the eternally revered duo of Rufus "walkin' the dog" Thomas, co-founder of the studio and local DJ, and his daughter Carla.
