I'm getting laptop and thursday and I'm trying to become well rounded. In 2004 my friend bought a laptop but his battery had messed up to the point where he couldnt turn the laptop on and use the laptop. Do they sell some kind of adapter where you can still use your laptop but you have to plug it up into a socket of course without a battery?

Yes. In fact, these normally come with the laptop and are also how the battery is recharged.

Hope that helps.

Yes, all laptops work as long as you plug it into the wall. You don't need a battery, you can just use the adapter without needing the battery inside the laptop.

Most laptops can run that way, I currently have two and both of them running without battery, that way a grounded laptop is called a luggable where it can still be taken around but it need a wall socket to run.

In the few semi-pathetic/semi-sympathic cases that you do run into a laptop that need to have battery to switch on like dinosaur Macintosh Portable there is a hill-billy way to DIY yourself around that, I saw a page describing doing that when I aimlessly browsing around.
