I applied for a great job and have had two interviews, had all my refrences checked, my college transcripts checked and now they just had me to take a drug test and sign for a criminal background check and said that the background check ussually takes 1 1/2 - 2 weeks and that they would be in touch.

Thats all they said, they never said I was hired or would be hired if everything comes out good they just said we'll be in touch.

What should I think of this, and is this a really good sign that they will probably hire me and just want to make sure everything is good before making a offer?

They're not going to pick up the costs of a background check and a drug test on you if they're not going to make you a job offer. They can't make you an offer until they make sure you pass these things.

You'll hear from them an soon as they have the results back and they'll give you a job offer at that time.

Congrats on your new job!

yeah this is common for many companies to do so. If you had an interview with the manager for instance they would usually say at the interview we need you to take a drug test and run your application though a criminal history check. If you applied online it would say the same. But yeah most companies will give you a drug test its kinda mandatory now some states pending or dont do them. Once youve passed the drug test and the criminal history part you should be good to go. Some times a company will just hire you on the spot cause there so desperate for help they wait for the results and then if theres a problem they will notify you and say hey you are not elligable for this job. The company will call and say the tests are in and you fail/passed. Call the place if you havent already and explain who you are and say I applied for this job and im just checking on the status of my application.

Unless there are more "steps" you have to go through. I am in the middle of trying to get a civilian position at a police dept. and I've had to take 3 tests, had 2 interviews, observation, background check, polygraph and OMG it's been a nightmare but made it through. The ONLY problem is MORE people applied since the job was listed so I have competition with about 6 people and they'll "be in touch" also.....I'm just not getting my hopes up now......I hope you get it though -- just hope you aren't getting the runaround like I have been getting and the time and effort, etc. but BEST OF LUCK TO YOU!!! I'm applying for a bunch of other positions now too because I'm just starting to feel not so good about it right now.

As long as your drug test comes out negative and you have no criminal background I would say your hired. All these checks are quite costly to the employer. They would not spend such time and money if they were just interested in you.

Usually a company won't invest time and money by giving you a drug test or checking your background if they are not going to hire you. These things cost money.

yes i would take that as i sign that they want to hire you, because they would not spend the money on the drug and background test on you, if they werent interested in offering you employment if the test and check came back good. . . thats usually the VERY last step in determination. . .

So if you dont have anything to worry about like pissing dirty, or a murder conviction, you will be good!

good luck at your new job!

They aren't going to spend money on a drug test and background check if you aren't being considered a good candidate for the job.

I think it's a good sign, but the deal isn't inked yet.

If they did all of that and paid for the drug screen and background check, you are pretty much a sure thing. I'd anticipate a call!

Congrats.

BY law they have to get Clearence Before they can hire you .OR even give you an offer. If you have nothing to worry about I would say it is safe to assume that the job is yours. It does take that long for the criminal check ...
