In the history of the US, never has a majority Democratic Congress, ever balanced the Federal Budget.

Why is that ?

Majority Republican Congress's have balanced the Federal Budget several times.

So why can't the Democrats seem to ever do it ?

When the cons had control of both the White House and Congress, did they pass a balanced budget? Nope, they created one of the largest deficits in US history, which Bill Clinton kindly resolved and changed into a budget surplus which Bush immediately squandered. Way to practice fiscal responsibility, yay cons!

Since WWII
Truman budget was in surplus 5 times, 2 with a Republican and 3 with a Democratic congress. Eisenhower passed 3 all with Democratic a congress. There has been no budget surplus since then, although Clinton had a surplus if you fold in the social security trust fund.

You should stop listening to who ever is feeding you this false information, or at least check your facts before you spread it.

When Clinton went into office the Reagan- Bush tax cut plan was in full mode and working. Took us out of the mess from Carter. It takes 4-5 years for a plan to work, doesn`t happen over night. After 8 years of Clinton and leaving office his extreme tax increase had us back where Carter was. George W walled into a mess . Now as Bush is going to be leaving office his tax cut is over riding what Clinton had done.US revenue is bring in 800 billion more this year than when Clinton left office. Problem is spending, Bush did not have the balls to veto all the pork spending bills. Clinton had a Republican congress to keep the spending in check. What do you think is going to happen if Hillary wins . She already has said she would support a massive tax increase and with a Democratic Congress who won`t stop spending, we are all in deep trouble

Because, no matter what they say, they don't want a balanced budget. If you have a balanced budget you don't have a ready made excuse to raise taxes. The problem is they raise taxes to "balance the budget" then turn around and create all kinds of new social programs and use our tax money to pay for them, never paying down the deficit.
***Add: Bill Clinton did not balance the budget. The republican congress did it with him kicking and screaming the whole time.

Bill robbed the money from the social security funds. That's why their going to have to raise SS taxes before 2020, or the fund will go broke by 2040.

Clinton's vetoes of GOP bills balanced the budget. Allan Greenspan applauded Clinton's fiscal expertise, not the GOP's.

Yet somehow, the GOP with a neo-con president (Bush 2) have blown the budget out of the solar system.

So did Bill Clinton

Wow, I like how there are people unintelligent enough to give me 4 thumbs down. Do people not know that Bill Clinton balanced, and even had a surplus, the budget by the end of his second term? He had a surplus, only to be destroyed by George Bush. Check out this graph if you don't believe me.

Plus, my answer disproves the theory that Democrats can't balance the budget.

Bill Clinton did it by cutting the military 50%.

As usual, every time we cut the military, we get attacked.
His budget surplus lasted one year, 1996. We have been paying for it ever since.
