Detroit finally got some competition in the Central and this could either hurt them or make them better. It will probably be the latter.
Nashville, Chicago. St Louis, Columbus are all having solid years. I'm not sure they have enough experience to win a Cup, especially Chicago and St Louis.
Besides Minny and San Jose, I think all the other teams suck.
The Sens definitely look like the team to beat. They have offense, defense, and goaltending. However, they have had the most points in the Eastern Conference before and done squat with it.
I like Carolina, too. A lot of teams fail after winning a championship but then the next year they're good again. They will be tough in the playoffs.
The Flyers and Montreal are on the up but I don't it's their year.

Senators. Best Start in NHL history. They have more talent that any other team. Who else can have their star center gone for three games and only lose one game? Minnesota can't. The team is also more balanced. Plus how can you argue with their defense? I mean it's one of the best in the league if not the best.
Now Gerber might be hot right now when he starts to get cold Emery can step it up.
Now I would love to the leafs to win, but that's not going to happen.
Though Detroit seems like they might do well they won't. The Dominator is getting old and you can't expect Osgood to play as well as he had all season.
When Scotty comes back the Ducks will find out that even he won't save them as they lost Teammu and Penner.
Columbus won't be consistent enough for a good play off run.
The Pens will turn it around, and maybe just maybe sneak in and do a nice little run, but they won't beat Ottawa.
Carolinia won't do it. They maybe the same team as won the cup earlier, but they've never had to face the monster that is Ottawa in the playoffs. Last year they were unstopable. Except for a layoff and a Ducks team that was far to physical.

Sure candidates to win the Stanley Cup this year are probably:
1. Ottawa - once a great young team now in its prime stages with these guys!
2. Detroit - always have been right up there! Never count Detroit out!
3. Vancover - watch the Canucks creep up and have better days. They really have the same talent, style, and players to win games for them!
Hope this helps answer your question!

Back in 1993 I predicted that the Minnesota Wild would win it during the 2007-2008 season......Knocking the Blue Jackets out of the first round, the Predators out of the second round, sweeping the Coyotes in the WCF's, and finally beating the Thrashers in the Finals.

OK, I will use this question to tell everyone that my team to win the Stanley Cup before the season started was the Pittsburgh Penguins. The only other times I will make a prediction is: at the halfway point of the regular season, at the start of the playoffs, and at the start of the Stanley Cup finals.

I'm thinking that the Red Wings will be up near the top along with the Rangers, and dare I say it - maybe the Blue Jackets. Some of my close seconds are Pittsburgh and Colorado with the Wild close behind.

Ottawa Senators will win, because a win by no other team would be one-half as annoying to me.
Yes, I am from Toronto.

The winner will be from the Western Conference no doubt...or the Eastern.

I hate to say it...but I think Detroits a pretty good bet this year. Ottawas started hot but they did last year, and might not be consistant enough, especially playoff time, to hang with an all-around hockey team like the Red Wings...But theres always the long shot that Gaborik stays healthy and the Wild have a chance!
Go Wild!!!
