was wed at the church initially, but would want to re-marry again. is there a separate annulment needed from the catholic church assuming, an annulment was granted by the civil courts? situation is in the philippines.

You have to request an annulment form from your local Diocese.
It's a simple form but answer it honestly and to the best of your views on the situation.
There's a fee, but that's the way it is.
I'm in the USA; but annulments all over the world by the Catholic Church are the same and governed by the Vatican.
A civil annulment will help your case.

In the United States, I have a girlfriend who did this. She also had to do something with the church, but I don't believe it was too much for her to handle.

Nope. You need to have the marriage declared invalid in the Church. The good news is this is easy these days, it just takes lots of money.
