I am buying the tires second hand for a good deal and want verify they will fit before I make the purchase? Thanks in advance.

Doesn't the first number (255 in this case) refer to the width of the tire, not the height. How would this affect the odometer?

Curious.

boogie_4 HAS IT. YOU'LL NEVER NOTICE THAT SMALL OF A DIFFERENCE ON THE SPEEDO. MAYBE 1 MPH AT 60 MPH

Yup. The 265 or 255 refers to the sidewall height. The 70 refers to the tire width and the 16 is the rim size. It could cause a small speedo error due to changing the tire circumfrence.

255 to a 265... that's 10 millimeter difference. Then the aspect ratio of 70%, so 7mm difference, you wont see a difference on the speedo.
