Well partly.
After tonights game, both goalies are under .900 save percentage on the season. Which ranks them both in the bottom 10 in the league. It is an individual statistic.
However, it does not account for the goals scored when the team has put them in a horrible situation, like a 5 on 3 or completely open.
While this of course happens to every team, it does appear that it's a collective team issue. The defenseman and zone coverage has not been great, their penalty kill has been below average as well, being in the top 5 in PPGA.
Tonight however, I cannot fault Raycroft. He made the big saves when they needed to be made, and did his job by stealing a few would be goals. He may have misjudged Komisareks speed coming in on the break in overtime, but that's what you do in a breakaway, you make your best guess, and he can't be faulted for that.
I wouldn't say overall the leafs need goaltending, as in new goaltenders, since it's a collective failure. The goalies do need to sharpen up a bit, but so does everyone else. It's a domino effect.

I'm thinking, rather than a change in goalies, how about getting a defenseman to look up and see where the red sweaters are before passing the puck. Montreal had one player taking the shooting lane away, two players between him and Antropov, Sundin was wide open to Mc Cabe's right at the top of the faceoff circle.
Was Mc Cabe blinded by the glare from the huge open space between him and Sundin? Did he think Toronto was wearing their red shirts today? Gawd, a guy with 1/90 vision would have found Sundin on that play.
Should have had Kaberle out there with a 3 on 3 anyway.
Starting to think Mc CAbe should be the # 8 defenseman, where's Belak? When's Coliacovo coming back? Didn't they just draft some Swedish hot shot defenseman from the the 3'rd tier league over there, where is he? Seen Borje on Landsberg's show not too long ago, he didn't look too busy. Carl Brewer still want another shot?
Who asked this question, its your fault. You got me started.
Where's Aki Berg?

I agree it wasn't the goaltending, yes in the past Toronto had goalies saving games, and yes toronto doesn't have a goaltender that will do when the team dosnt' play, I agree I don't understand why Mccabe was on the ice, since he's proven how to lose games for the leafs???
Leafs need a new GM!!!

Can't blame Raycroft on this one, although say the other guy in net suited up for the Leafs, I'd say it would have come out a little different. I doubt Komisarek would have beat Price five-hole.
If you want to blame someone, blame Tlusty or McCabe. Sure Tlusty is a rookie and he helped set up one of the Wellwood goals but he left Kovalev unchecked in the slot, that's no way to pick up your goalie.
You can blame McCabe for several reasons though. His inability to get the puck on net throughout the game especially on the power play. He is supposed to have the huge shot from the point and his ineffectiveness is hurting guys like Kaberle who instead of moving the puck have begun shooting much more than usual. Do I even have to mention the overtime giveaway that lost the game?
Edit: Chip in some goals? Toronto is 2nd only to the Hurricanes in Goals scored. The fact that their special teams were weak in both categories and their defense is the problem. Who'd want to be a goalie in Toronto right now?

yes i watched the whole game. Goaltending was not the problem tonight. Raycroft was good. he did his job. you cant blame him for 2 of the 3 goals in regulation. he had no chance on them. i dont see why Maurice had McCabe out instead of Kaberle. i mean Kaberle IS a better defence then McCabe. why wasn't he out?? & Mike Komisarek intercepted. ok its no brainer. why on earth would you do a soft pass when the opponent is right there??? WHY??? & he said that Komisarek read the play right. well Dumb@$$, you didnt make the play right!!

Leafs played a great game tonight in a losing cause. You can't blame Raycroft at all. It was a 3-on-3 hockey with lots of open ice. Either team could have scored in the first minute of overtime. It seemed the Habs grabbed that advantage and Komisarek was off for the races in all alone against Raycroft.
Leafs played a great game! Raycroft was amazing! This one goes down as "lesser luck" for the Leafs.
Hope this answers your question.

Goaltending's fine. I think we can pull off the twin-head dragon because Raycroft has proven that he's one of the elite with a little rest. Remember how Maurice was "riding" him from All-Star break (which he was phenomenal after) all the way to the end of the season? Yeah....he sucked without rest. He's not the Terminator. Maurice was an idiot for doing that.
No, we just need a new team in general.

The last time a Canadian Team won the cup was Montreal in 1993. Its a conspiracy in Toronto, not goaltending. Dryden and Ferguson are making sure the leafs will never win, its a Montreal conspiracy, if Montreal can't win it then they will make sure the leafs will never win it either. LOL

Mind you, if they had decent goaltending on breakaways/shootouts, they'd have made the playoffs each of the last two years. Let's hope they don't miss out again but 1 or 2 points.
