I know you asked for answers from women only but I used to work as a RN for 22 years. I read the web sites listed by some of the persons who answered you. The info on them seemed correct.

If I was a woman and had to have this done, I would want it done by my OB/GYN doctor. Millions of women have had this done, so you are not alone. My best wishes to you.

When in doubt, go to Wikipedia:

Also, ask your doctor why you need the procedure. If it's an abnormal PAP smear result, perhaps it should be repeated before you submit to a colposcopy. I would think you would need to see a gynecologist for this procedure.

Here's an article that will help you:

Colposcopy is a simple and painless procedure that is performed in the gynecologist's office. The procedure takes about ten or fifteen minutes.

You should be fine!

Good luck!

This is NOT a painful thing. I have had two done this year because I had an abnormal pap this spring. They just check your cells to make sure everything is ok. It takes no more then a few seconds to do it. Its very easy and quick. Do not worry about it. I worried and lost sleep but it turned out fine and im healthy. Try not to get to excited about it.

your Dr. should have explained what will be done and given you a sheet on what you need to do to prepare for the test
with the information ,you will see that it won't be really bad
