No, it's not the usual thing in Winter in Melbourne.
Normally, it doesn't snow at sea level any where in Australia.

Snow has been recorded in Melbourne but it is very rare as it is usually too warm for snow. Snow does occur on the higher ground on the outskirts of Melbourne and the ski fields at Mt Buller are close enough for a day's skiing leaving Melbourne early and back in the evening.

Snow has fallen in Melbourne in the past, but it is a very rare event. There is some snow fall in areas near the city, such as the Dandenongs, almost every winter.
