People have different definitions of heavy metal- you should be more specific- what is a band you like as an example? a few I can think of off the top of my head are- Cradle of Filth, Iced Earth (they are not popular in the US but have some pretty cool songs) Lacuna Coil Rotting Christ (I don't know them to well--) Emperor Then of course, there's your mainstream bands like Slipknot, I don't particularly like them but is that what you are talking about?

All the new bands & recent music aren't the best-70's rock & 80's metal are the best (too many great bands back then- As of Metallica, they died off slowly after Cliff Burton got killed in the bus accident-(He WAS the best, & without him Metallica lost their true style)
